La Vida Loca

4th and Texas Tech Pkwy, this happened earlier yesterday afternoon. The blue truck was about to make a right before getting bumped from behind by this (apparently prego) young woman. Let's hope she and her...cargo...are okay.

Duct Tape

The girl driving this car parked near me as I was getting in mine. This is in the parking lot that I park in everyday. Now, I can't say for sure when this girl rear-ended someone (or hit a tree), but I bet it was recent. Amazing what duct tape can hold together.

Mall Madness

Middle-aged woman driving a white Ford Explorer rear ended a maroon car (Mercury Cougar or something like that) on 62nd and Slide by the mall today at lunchtime. The young man driving the car got out and was pushing it into the nearest parking lot as I was passing by. I didn't get a picture, unfortunately, as it was very windy today, and driving an SUV requires both hands on the wheel on windy days. Plus, the bastard behind me was tailgating (and on his cell phone), so I decided it would be best to not slow down to capture a shot on my phone.

My old car

A pic of my old car after it got hit on Slide & 13th in late January. It is now in some junkyard somewhere.

"Sorry, Officer, I didn't see you in front of me!"

For my first post, here's a photo from the local newspaper back in September (just after I moved here) regarding a series of three rear-end collisions on I-27 & 66th. I wonder what excuse the driver gave the cop after rear ending him....I bet that didn't go over too well!

Driving Here is So Much Fun

Not long after moving to Lubbock, TX, I had the misfortune of being rear ended not once but TWICE within a month's time. (Now I see where the phrase "Wreck 'Em Tech" came from!) Since then, I've kept a watchful eye on the actions of other drivers, no doubt in hopes of avoiding the monumental hassles that car accidents involve. It quickly became clear to me that this place has some of the worst drivers I have ever seen. Whether it's college students from out of town fumbling with their cell phones while trying to negotiate unfamiliar conditions like ice, snow, and dust storms, or hurried moms lighting their cigarettes while weaving in and out of traffic with their trucks so they won't be late for their kids' little league games, or drunk party-goers (who knew this town could be one of the top ten drunkest cities in the U.S.?!), Lubbock certainly has its share of dangerous drivers. And the fact that the city itself is so spread out--making driving essential to getting around--means that at any given time you can count on one of them being on the road, eager to make your next driving experience a nightmare waiting to happen.

So I made this blog to illustrate my point. It's purely for entertainment value. You may not think this sort of thing could be funny, but when you see wrecks happening all the time in a town of Lubbock's size, it gets to be so ridiculous that it actually becomes hilarious...well, so long as you're only a witness to these driver boo-boos!
