Christening the Newly Reconstructed 4th & Loop Intersection
These folks do not seem to be happy campers--especially since they caught on that their pictures were being taken. This intersection hasn't been open for THREE days and already it has seen its very first wreck. That didn't take long, but considering how embarrassingly bad Lubbock drivers are, I'm actually surprised this didn't happen sooner.

Not Sure What Happened Here
The guy in the white car hit the woman in the grey car as she was pulling out of her apartment complex this morning. I can't say whether this was the guy's fault or hers; he could have hit her as she was still, or she could have pulled out too far to the point that he couldn't avoid hitting her. You can see the two of them battling it out in the second pic. Whatever the case, all I can say for certain is that it's things like this that make me glad I don't have to settle disputes like this for a living!
Parking Space Hog
The parking lot where I work was completely full this morning when I arrived, so I wasn't too excited when I saw this. It's got to be one of the sloppiest efforts at parking I've ever seen.

Back 2 School Driving
Thanks, Donnie, for the picture. It's sad to see a nice car like this getting wrecked, but this is evidence that the influx of Texas Tech students in the late summer brings about many new wrecks on Lubbock's dangerous streets.

y u sholdn't txt n drive
I've been out of town for 8 weeks for the summer, and the day after I get back I witness this. The guy driving the midnight blue Beamer really did a number on his car. Unfortunately, the close-up pic didn't come out well, as this was taken at 7:45.

No Mas Tequila Por Favor!
I'm beginning to think that the 4th & Frankford intersection is a dangerous one. This must be the third wreck I've seen in this spot. This happened today around 8:00 A.M. by a young gangsta-looking Hispanic male. Is it me, or does this look like it was done on purpose? He couldn't have hit that pole more squarely! There weren't any other cars involved, so what do you think happened?
A) He was falling asleep (who is awake at this ungodly hour, anyway? I mean really.)
B) He was hungover (after all, isn't everyone who's anyone recovering on Friday mornings?)
C) He wished he had a new ride (driving a truck in Lubbock, how original!)
D) He was attempting suicide after Ke$ha came on the radio (who wouldn't?!)
I'd go with "all of the above" myself.

Mall Madness, Part 2
Here's a photo of another wreck taken by a friend of mine on the Loop just west of Slide Rd (the mall). Happened a few days ago. I wouldn't ever think of driving any small-sized car in Lubbock out of concern for my safety! ESPECIALLY not a barbie car like a Mazda Miata...that thing couldn't stand up against the gusting winds of Lubbock without getting blown away!

What Happned Here?
I have no idea what happened to this car, which was hit on S Loop 289 at the Marsha Sharp exit (there was another wreck at this exact location, featured on this blog here). You can see the driver and passenger standing with a cop on the right, looking on at their poor car. If I were any of you reading this, I'd be extra careful when driving in this area next time!
Dude, Nice Parking Job!
Saw this abandoned car while I was getting a Diet Coke at the Wendy's drive-thru on 4th and Frankford. Seriously, no one was in it. Though, sometimes you need a Frosty so damn bad you can't waste ANY time making sure your car is parked out of the way of traffic. Totally understandable.

Taco Hell
Saw this in the Taco Bell parking lot a few nights ago near the Wal-Mart on 4th and Frankford. Looks nice!

Warning: Do Not Operate Heavy Machinery
This accident illustrates the importance of carefully reading the labels on your bottles of Vicodin, folks. This happened yesterday afternoon by some numbnuts towing what looks like a crane who thought his vehicle and tow would clear the overpass. It didn't, and what you see is the tow stuck under the bridge. They had to call out the people who get machinery un-stuck from bridges (whoever that is), and traffic was backed up for the rest of the day. It has since been cleared, but not quick enough for a member on my team to get a picture of it. Also, you can see on the left side of the picture a pedestrian taking a picture for himself. Who knew accidents could be entertaining?! Only in Lubbock! :)

(Not fair reporting, in my opinion...they totally made it sound like it wasn't the driver's fault!)

Bumper Stickerz
Saw these Non-PC bumper stickers recently and had to share. The first one I saw on an old POS car in a neighborhood on the south side, and the second I saw while on my morning commute. Man, are Lubbockites cranky or what?

Mitsubishi "Mon-stero"
No, it doesn't live under your bed, it's parked in one of the parking lots on the Tech campus. Just be sure you're not in its path whenever you're on the road, or else...
